Temperature Ranges

PRS Reefer Containers guarantee an uninterrupted cold chain in three temperature ranges:

  • Class C / Frozen (-18°C … -25°C)
  • Class A / Chilled (0°C … +4°C)
  • Ambient (+15°C … +18°C)

Thermal Autonomy

PRS Reefer Containers, after the Pre-Trip Thermal Charge, guarantee 25 day* Thermal Autonomy. During this period, they are power supply free and guarantee an uninterrupted cold chain independent from the chosen carrier.

PRS Reefer Containers can be placed directly on the field and the product can be stored inside the container for immediate temperature pull-down. The PRS Reefer Containers can then be operated as dry containers during multimodal road-ship-rail transport and can be stored at terminals without plug-in, thus reaching a top-quality uninterrupted cold chain, from the field to the market.

PRS Reefer Containers are Maintenance-Free

The absence of compressors and aggregated genset for refrigeration, and relative moving parts, makes PRS Reefer Containers extremely reliable and maintenance free.


PRS Offshore Reefer Containers

PRS offers 10’ HC Offshore Reefer Containers for the delivery of fresh and perishable goods to deep-sea oil platforms.

Strict safety regulations restrict the use of combustion engines and generators (genset) on oil platforms. Since PRS Offshore Containers become autonomous for internal cooling after their Thermal Charge, they are entirely safe for deployment at oil platforms.

Power Consumption

PRS Reefer Containers only need energy while recharging. After a full charge, they are completely autonomous.

Conventional reefers, on the other hand, are 100% dependable on external power sources and third-party diligence (plugging).

The interaction between saving over 80% of energy consumption and the use of grid power further reduces the overall cost, as energy is more expensive on board of vessels, trucks, and ports.

In particular, the new regulations relevant to low sulfur content by the International Marine Organization (IMO) have further increased the cost of fuel oil.

CO2 Emissions

PRS Technology does not only use energy in a much more efficient way. It also uses cleaner energy, coming from city grid.

In contrast, reefers use energy from gensets, trucks, and vessels that have higher CO2 emissions per produced kWh.

Waste Generation

The more effectively the fresh produce is handled, the less possibility of having to throw it away, thus reducing waste.

Since no human intervention is not required for storage at terminals, terminal handling charges are lower than those of conventional reefer containers

Since there is no risk of interruption in the functioning of the refrigeration, the cost of insurance is significantly lower


Food Safety

Cold chain is maintained throughout the delivery process. There is no risk of not re-plugging the units after the supply vessel approaches the rig.

We include data-loggers to verify the temperature and humidity readings at intervals between 2 - 15 minutes.

Additionally, we offer 24/7 GPS real-time tracking services.

100% of the deliveries within ideal temperature ranges (Class A /chilled 0 to +4°C; Class C / frozen -18 to -22°C), with insignificant temperature and humidity variation up to 10 days for offshore containers and 25 days for marine and intermodal containers.


Thermal Tests by EMS Ship Supply BV

EMS Ship Supply BV in Spijkenisse (The Netherland) performed tests on off-shore PRS Reefer Containers evaluating Class A (chilled 0 to +4°C) and Class C (frozen -18 to -22°C) temperature performances with full compliance vs. specifications.

The hourly gradient was 0,01°C in both containers

Port-to-Port Costs vs. End-to-End Costs

The maritime transport costs of PRS Reefer Containers are significantly lower when compared to those of conventional reefers, since PRS Reefers are handled as dry containers.

Even more fascinating is the cost saving of the end-to-end transport. Thank to the Thermal Autonomy of the PRS Reefer Containers, both upstream and downstream transports, can be performed on trucks and/or trains without arduous special requirements or generating costs for an electrical or fuel power supply.


Class A Post-Processing Product Pull Down Inside the PRS Reefer Container

Just harvested food as well as pharmaceutical products at ambient temperature can be loaded into PRS Equipment without needing to first be pulled down. The temperature evolution of the graph below shows the efficiency of the temperature exchange between the stuffed products and the PRS Thermal Accumulators. Within 4 to 5 hours the temperature reaches the refrigeration set point.
